The design brief was to replace the traditional expensive and labor intensive sheet metal manufacturing, and design a light weight fully ABS ceiling tile lighting. Being able to design an injection molded ceiling light, gave us the freedom to explore new ideas but it came with it’s own challenges. We had to avoid giant expensive injection molds. The key to the success of this project was to breakdown the large and tricky parts into smaller ones, and create a modular design. This solution allowed our customer to enter the market with minimum investment on tooling and molds and streamlined the assembly process.
The typical egg-crate louver panel in ceiling lights is a large one piece item. We designed an alternative symmetrically sculpted three piece louver system to replace that. This design, gave the product it’s distinctive and unique look. The obvious by product of this smart design is the fact that it requires much smaller molds to manufacturer and the same parts can be easily installed on either side of the tile.
Style and beauty is a rare thing in the economy FPL lighting market segment. So we focused on creating a sleek profile for this inexpensive product in order to give it a competitive edge. Frosted semi transparent Poly-carbonate sharers soften the light at it’s source and gracefully hide the internal electronic compartments.
Service and maintenance is much easier that the other competitors thanks to the large removable upper half panel.
Oscar is on of the the most innovative wall and ceiling mounted FPL lights in the market. It has been designed to compete in the upper segment of the market and has a few smartly designed features that makes it so unique. The goal was to create a softer light and distribute it in a wider range, using the same four FPL light layout that is the industry standard. Our solution was to use the wall or ceiling surface as an indirect reflector. So we lifted the FPL lights up, and mounted them in a higher position to soften the light effect. In order to have a better light distribution we designed a X shaped layout which covers 30% more area in comparison to the traditional parallel FPL light set up.
